Mamata Banerjee Slams Mithun Chakraborty’s BJP Allegiance

top-news

In a fiery exchange of words, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty for his affiliation with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During a public rally in Raiganj, Banerjee did not mince words, labeling Chakraborty as a “big traitor from Bengal” and accusing him of bowing down to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to shield his son.

The tension between the two political figures stemmed from Chakraborty’s shift from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to the BJP before the 2021 West Bengal Assembly polls. Banerjee pointedly referenced an incident involving Chakraborty’s son’s wedding, where police arrived to investigate a rape case against the groom, leading to the wedding being called off briefly.

In response, Chakraborty hit back at Banerjee’s accusations, asserting that he was not a traitor but a soldier. He criticized Banerjee’s remarks and even went as far as questioning her mental stability, adding fuel to the already heated exchange.

The verbal duel between Chakraborty and Banerjee unfolded just ahead of the first phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal. With political tensions running high, this clash adds another layer of intensity to the electoral landscape as voters prepare to cast their ballots in key constituencies.
